Wyldhaven Farm | Wyldhaven Homestead
Wyldhaven is our home and farm with an organic market garden and botanical sanctuary and it has woodland gardens and teaching gardens for students in gardening, homesteading and herbal medicine. Wyldhaven is a magical place that is actually more forested mountainside than farm. Absolutely beautiful trees with our own private road winding up through the property that has several long ridges. Property lays well - not too steep - great for walking & trail blazing.
Our homestead, Wyldhaven, is on 60± acres and includes our home with solar power, streams, gardens, pasture, barn, trails, mountain views, private road and many house sites with long range views. Our property is mainly wooded with private road winding up our mountainside past huge rock outcrops and many building sites with long range views. It's sort of like having our own "national" park. We've even considered creating our own alternative community since there are at least a dozen great homesites for regular homes, cabins or tiny houses, each quite private.
Our 3 br, 3.5 bth home was built in the mid 70's and then renovated / updated in '99 by Y2Kers. It includes solar PV power, with huge battery bank & backup generator and can run completely off the grid if necessary. It's a great 2500+ sq.ft., ranch style home with huge kitchen, large office/library, separate laundry room, hardwood and tile floors, decks, great landscaping, organic kitchen garden, larger market garden, pasture, old chestnut barn, streams, private road that winds up the property curving through the old growth forest with beautiful rock outcrops and stream. We even have a huge bonus room with heat and a/c used as a classroom that seats 20-25. Plus there's a garage big enough to accommodate an RV and a basement / lower level with another half bath where Ivan has his essential oil business, Artisan Aromatics.
'13/'14 renovations include: 1. Removal of "popcorn" ceilings. All ceiling are now flat and smooth; 2. Refinished hardwood floors with medium dark stain; 3. New paint throughout interior; 4. Updated bathrooms; 5. New lighting fixtures; 6. more to come.
Recent projects have included repairing the hundred year old barn. It now has a new foundation of locust logs cut from our property and some of the beams have been repaired, the tin roof patched and it has gotten a long needed cleanup - still more to do there but only so much time. Next, we have cleared more of the pasture and taken down some of the trees that the power company decimated. We also replaced the metal posts that support the outer edge of our library with locusts posts and now we've built a small deck that spans the creek next to the house. It's a great place to relax and listen to the murmer of the water. And, last but not least, we built out the basement and moved the essential oil business downstairs, sheetrocking walls and ceiling, adding a bathroom, a deep sink, new lighting and upgrading the electrical system.
One day we plan to move to a bit smaller place near Highlands NC where Joie will continue teaching her Aromathrerapy School classes and Ivan will continue bottling Artisan Essential Oils. But, who knows, we may stay here in our home forever or build a tiny house up on our mountain or...... Right now we're not actively trying to sell our property but, if you have an interest, let us know.
